The choice of cores, ranging from 8-bit to 32-bit MCU; from small 8051 to ARM Cortex-M3 purely depends on product nature and expected R&D cost. Usually, for smaller applications we use 8 bit PIC micro-controller while for high end projects ARM based micro-controllers are preferred.

The design cycle includes System Concept, Hardware design (schematics and PCB), Firmware development, Prototype development and Testing. The design cycle ends up with complete working prototype with all necessary documentation.
